Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Converting Dept. Employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by a forktruck when walking or standing close to the plastic strip curtain at the doorway into the warehouse as the curtains were scratched and soiled to the extent that forktruck operators could not see through the curtains. Employees who were near the strip curtain who didn't hear or react to the forktruck horn, could have been struck and seriously injured by a forktruck. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method would to correct this hazard would be to replace the plastic strips with new transparent strips.
