Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) 140 West R.R., Wray, CO: On or about April 2, 1992, and at times prior, employees were exposed to crushing injuries between a backing semi-trailer and a railroad car. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is: 1) Immediate implementation of a written company policy on backing vehicles. 2) Conduct safety briefing immediately prior to operation. 3) Use of only one spotter. If sight of spotter is lost - stop, Do Not Proceed - unitl spotter is located. 4) Prior to leaving vehicle, set brakes, shut of engine (prior to any operation). 5) Chock vehicle trailer.
