Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LOCKOUT
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recongized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to shock, electrocution, being crushed, or death: (a) F/V Bering Empire: There were no written lockout/tagout procedures implemented to train or inform employees of the hazards associated with working on electrical circuit panels, processing, engine room and hydraulic equipment and the possibility of employees being electrocuted, crushed, loss of life and limbs in accorance with 29 CFR 1910.147 and ANSI standard Z-244.1. Among other methods of abatement, one feasible method of abatement is to implement lockout/tagout written procedures using the sample materials provided to the company and train the employees in the content of the material.
