Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falling injuries from an improiperly constructed and utilized forklift personnel elevating platform: (a) Personnel platform was elevated on industrial truck forks without being secured to the forks or upright on or about Septemmber 5, 1991. (b) Personnel platform waa elevated on industrial truck forks without a guard to protect employees on the platform from contact with the forklift truck mast mechanism, on or about September 5, 1991. AMONG OTHER METHODS ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS: Chains or clamps should be provided to secure the personnel platform to the industrial truck lifting carriage or forks. (instance a) The personnel platform or forklift truck should be fitted with a guard to protect personnel in the normal working position on the platform from moving parts of the truck. (instance b)
