Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm in that employees were exposed to the hazard of falling off and being run over by High Lift Vehicles, "Goats", when riding on the fuel tank of the vehicle while being transported to the various work areas: (a) On March 20, 1997, employees were riding on the fuel tank of a "Goat", a field modified GMC school bus, serial number T16PAAV576516, while being transported from grove to grove during citrus harvesting operations. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to prohibit any employee from standing or sitting on equipment such as the "Goat", other than in approved passenger seats, while the equipment is in motion.
