Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CHEMICAL
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) In the Sanitation Storage Room, materials containing acid, ammonia compound, bleach, and caustic chemicals were stored together. The materials/chemicals are incompatible and will form Toxic and Explosive gases when mixed: including but not limited to Mor Chlor, RS 505, and No Korrose (Sodium Hypochlorite and Sodium hydroxide) which are incompatible with RS 405HF (Phosporic Acid) and Ravesan #1 (Ammonium Chloride). Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to keep the incompatible materials/chemicals separated.chemicals
