Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: the employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards from metal shelving units and/or its contents: (a) At the site - Employee entered 40' storage trailer to retrieve supplies, shelving collapsed and employee was pinned between the shifting shelving and the opposite side of the trailer, on or about 12/1/98. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is: Secure shelves to plywood walls and floors within trailer, and utilize diagonal bracing to prevent shifting.
