Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to the hazards of being struck and/or crushed by the bucket of a skid steer front end loader: WORKSITE: An employee was allowed to stand on a flat surface of the Bobcat skid steer front end loader, Model 843, Serial Number 5037-M-26573 while the equipment was being driven down on an inclined surface to hold an oversized load. On or about 10/9/07, the employee slipped and fell to the ground, between the skid steer and 1. Utilize other effective means to hold oversized loads from the ground. 2. Prohibit employees from riding skid steer loaders which are not designed specifically for personnel seating. 3. Train all employees on the specific requirements and the appropriate hazards associated with skid steer loader use. 4. Follow manufacturer recommendations.
