Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a.Crushing between trailers during switching operations occurring in the yard area. Abatement: A feasible way to abate this condition includes: Inclusion of the necessity to set the emergency brake each and every time the tractor/hostler driver leaves the cab when performing switching operations in the written safety procedures/policies and in the training videos. Inclusion of supervisory review of employee performance (and compliance with above referenced policy. Inclusion of progressive disciplinary action for failure of either supervisors or employees in carrying out their responsibilities under the above referenced policies.
