Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CONFINED
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Employee are required to enter annealing furnacss and copper stripping tanks to make repairs, clean tanks and other work. Employees are exposed to the hazards of ocnfined space entry, including oxygen deficienties, toxic atmospheres and possible fire or explosions. Feasaible abatement methods include but not limited to: 1). Develop and implement a written confined space entry procedure which as a minimlum consists of: (a) Planning by qualified person. (b) Require testing of atmospheres for oxygen content and explosion nature. (c) Provide adequate ventilation. (d) Use proper tools, equipment and entry permit. (e) Provide adequate training, including emergency rescue and use of safe equipment. (f) Provide standby safety observers. (g) Provide adequate lockout. (h) Maintain adequate records.
