Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: The hazard of falling approximately 9 feet from an unsecured and unprotected wooden pallet on a Powered Industrial Lift Truck. Stock room at 715 Dobbs Ferry Road White Plains NY 10607 On or before 10/3/95, a) An employee was raised and lowered approximately 9 feet by a Yale forklift truck serial no. N525122 while standing on a wooden pallet which was held up by the truck's forks. The pallet was not secured to the forks and did not have guardrails. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS... To use a safety platform secured to the lifting carriage and/or forks of the truck as stipulated by ANSI B56.1-1975, Sections 427 and 527A, American National Standard for Powered Industrial Trucks (Lowlift and Highlift trucks).
