Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to broken bones and crushing from falling load: (a)Hanger 134 The single bridge girder ten (10) ton underhung crane had the running ropes kinked, on or about September 1, 1993. (b)Hanger 134 Thje single bridge girder ten (10) ton under hung crane had damaged (kinked) running ropes and no periodic or regular inspections were being done, on or about September 1, 1993. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO ESTABLISH A PROGRAM OF REGULAR CRANE INSPECTIONS AND CORRECT DEFICIENCIES WHEN FOUND, SUCH AS KINKED RUNNING ROPES.
