Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CAUGHT
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to inrunning nip points: On 11/03/94, An employee was webbing paper through the rollers of the Goss Printer without using proper safety procedures causing the employee to have his hand caught in the moving parts. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be to follow guidelines set forth in the Rockwell International Corp., Goss Products, Instruction Manual, pages 18 thru 20 which outline the proper procedure to webb paper. The recommendations listed below should also be followed to ensure a safe workplace: 1) Employees should have periodic and refresher training on all safety procedures to be followed during the webbing operations. 2) Employer should evaluate procedures periodically and include any changes necessary.
