Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of falling while working from a single-point adjustable suspension scaffold; painting a 60 foot high water tank. Among other methods, one feasible method to eliminate or reduce this hazard is wear a safety belt or harness tied to a lifeline by a lanyard as stipulated by ANSI A10.8-1977 "American National Standard Safety Requirements For Scaffolding" Section 12.5 & Spider Staging's "Operators Manual" and to provide training & education to the workmen concerning all the appropriate procedures for the safe operation & use of this equipment: (a) 7/22/92, Location: Jobsite - Employees using spider staging pneumatic powered single-point suspension scaffold to paint 60 foot high water tank.
