Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that the railroad tracks on site were not properly maintained thereby exposing train crew employees to the hazards of railroad car derailment injuries such as broken bones, crushing injuries and/or serious cuts. Among others, feasible and acceptable methods to abate these hazards include, but are not limited to: 1. Establish a program of periodic inspections of the railroad tracks. 2. Repair railroad tracks found to be in need of repair on a timely basis.
