Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to dangers of crane failure due to the operator not adequately checking all the parameters that affect the rated lifting capacity of the crane prior to making a lift. a. Route 89, Over Clinton St., Concord, NH - The crane operator did not check all the critical parameters that affect the rated lifting capacity prior to making a near capacity lift. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to set up procedures that insures all critical parameters are checked prior to a lift such as but not limited to the following items: 1. Total weight to be lifted 2. Measurements of the load radius on all lifts greater than 75 of the rated capacity 3. Checks of all lifting parameters with the crane's capacity charts
