Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to injuries such as broken bones due to the potential hazards of a scaffold collapsing: a.Bay A - Employees were permitted to work from a manually-propelled mobile scaffold which was modified without approval of the manufacturer or a person competent in scaffold requirements. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to have either the manufacturer or a professional engineer review and approve any modifications to a scaffold prior to the modifications being made.
