Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.120(p)(4): The employer did not adequately develop and implement a decontamination procedure meeting the requirement of paragraph (k)(2)(iii) which requires that all employees leaving a contaminated area be appropriately decontaminated, and all contaminated clothing and equipment leaving the contaminated area be appropriately disposed of or decontaminated: a. On or about the night shift of August 18 and 19, 2015, an HTS service technician who was poisoned due to 4-chloroaniline resulting in methemoglobinemia by absorption and inhalation, was not properly decontaminated, which should have included flushing the eyes for at least 15 minutes and washing the body to remove potential contamination still on the body and this despite these requirements identified on the MSDS in the possession of HTS. b. On or about the night shift of August 18 and 19, 2015, an HTS employee was allowed to leave the worksite in an ambulance and proceed to the local hospital without the employee and his clothing being decontaminated or his potentially contaminated clothing removed before transport.
