Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: A blocking device was not in use at the time of the accident to prevent the bed of the tilt bed wrecker from falling. Also the lowering control lever was not secured in the off position to prevent the accidental operation of the control to lower the tilt bed on the wrecker. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method is to required the use of a blocking device to hold the bed int he up position in the event the bed should collapse onto the person working between the bed and the lower portion of the wrecker frame. A locking device should be attached to the lowering control to prevent the control from lowering the bed accidentally while a person is working between the tilt bed and the lower portion of the wrecker frame.r
