Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of falls: On November 15, 1994, two employees of Barber Construction Company did not have fall protection while working and walking on the top of an exterior wall of Vinson Hall, approximately 35 feet high from ground level. The roof of the building had also been removed, exposing employees to a 10 feet fall inside the building. Feasible abatement method(s) to correct this hazard may include, but are not limited to: a) Require employees to work from mobile scaffold positioned on third floor inside building. b) Require employees to use safety belts and lanyards.
