Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: EXPLOSION
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to serious injury or death as a result of exposed ferrous metal on the interior of a magazine(s) where it may contact packages of explosives: a) Shipping House # 8 b) Shipping House # 6 c) Shipping House # 5 d) Shipping House # 4 Nails were found which protruded away from the wall distances of from 1/4 to 1 inch into the interior of the magazines. Among other methods one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to countersink and cover the nails with a non sparking material to prevent contact with packages of explosives.
