Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) 10/22/92, Paint Spray Booth: Employees were spraying paints that were Class 1A flammable paints. The spray booth was not equipped with an approved automatic fire extinguishing system. N.F.P.A. 33 Chapter 7 Sec. 7-1. Among other methods, one feasible method to reduce this hazard is to install an automatic fire extinguishing system, as per N.F.P.A. 33 Chapter 7 Sec. 7-1. Provide training and education to the paint spraying operators concerning procedures for the safe operation of this spray booth and fire extinguishing system. NOTE: This building was not protected by a sprinkler system.
