Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck-by: a)Basement Area, Savannah Lodge, on or about 8/2/99: One manually lever operated chain hoist(CM 627 series 1 1/2 ton capacity) used to plumb vertical columns had the safety latches missing from each hook.Employees exposed to a struck-by hazard. Abatement certification must be submitted for this item. Among other methods, one feasible and accepatble method to correct this hazard is to provide hook latches for hooks as per ASME HST-3M-1991, chapter 3.4.ter
