Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards of falling wooden arches: 2/23/90 at the job site - Employees in the process of installing wooden laminated church arches. The arches were braced and had rope supports, two of which were removedcollapsed all eight arches. Among other feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard is to assure that prior to removing ropes for the purpose of erecting an arch, that replacement ropes be secured in place elsewhere. During heavy wind conditions extra bracing of end arches as well as cross bracing or every bay area rather than every other bay.
