Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: BLOODBORNE
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the recognized hazard of Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) infection: At the establishment; employees engaged in housekeeping that included, but not limited to, patient rooms cleaning and trash removing from hospital wards and clinics were exposed to multiple incidents of dirty needle sticks that were used for parenteral injections and were improperly discarded. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to offer HBV vaccination to all employees whose jobs involve the risk of directly contacting blood or other potentially infectious materials.
