Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Shaffer Bros Lumber Company: Logging operation in Allegheny Township, Somerset County; Employees were exposed to being struck by trees in that, lodged trees were not felled before work was continued within two tree lengths of the dodged tree. Feasible and useful abatement methods for reducing this hazard among others are: a) Correct this hazard is to have all lodged trees felled prior to felling another tree which is within 2 tree lengths of the lodged tree. The lodged tree should be brought down with mechanical equipment or some other safe means of felling the lodged tree.
