Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a recognized hazard of electrical shock, burns, and/or electrocution: a) M/V Ocean Pride: Employee(s) on the main deck, processing area #2 starboard side had occasion to use the two 120/140 volt circuit breaker panels which were not equipped with a dead front panel over the exposed current carrying parts. This condition subjected the employee(s) to the possibility of contacting current carrying parts, resulting in shock, burns or electrocution. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to replace the dead front in the cabinet. b) M/V Ocean Pride: Employee(s) near the freezer, port side, had occasion to use the 120 volt light switch which was not equipped with a cover over the switch. This condition subjected the employees to the possibility of contacting current carrying parts, resulting in shock, burns or electrocution. Among other methods one feasible and acceptable abatement method of correcting this hazard is to install cover plates on the switch box. c) M/V Ocean Pride: Employee(s) near the freezer port side, had occasion to use the overhead, 4" round junction box which was not equipped with a cover over the box. This condition subjected the employee(s) to the possibility of contacting current carrying parts, resulting in shock, burns, or electrocution. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method of correcting this hazard is to install a cover plate over the junction box. d) M/V Ocean Pride: Employee(s) on the main deck, processing area #2 starboard side had occasion to use the two 120/140 volt circuit breaker panels which were not equipped with labels as to what each circuit breaker controlled. This condition subjected the employee(s) to the hazard of delaying power interruption in an emergency situation. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to label all circuit breaker switches.
