Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a recognized hazard of electrical shock, burns, and/or electrocution: a) M/V Omnisea: Employees in the boiler flat, pipe shop had occasion to use a 120-volt Skill 7-1/4 inch circular saw that had the ground prong missing. This condition subjected the employees to the possibility of contacting defective current carrying parts, resulting in shock. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to install a new male plug and wire to meet the National Electrical Code.
