Paragraph 1-201(a) of the Executive Order 12196 of February 26, 1980: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to potential crane and/or hoist failure: (a)1918 Commerce Street, Boise, Idaho - The 5 ton overhead bridge crane (underhung hoist) was not inspected and maintained in accordance with the American National Standards Institute Safety Code for Overhead and Gantry Cranes (Top Running Bridge, Single Girder Underhung Hoist (ANSI B30.17 1982). NOTES FOR ANSI B30.17-1992 CRANE: 1.The crane was not inspected on a frequent basis (at least monthly) by a designated competent person covering the items listed in section 17-2.1.2. See section 172.1.1(b)(1). %% 2.The crane was not inspected on a periodic basis (at least annually) by a designated competent person covering the items listed in section 17-2.1.3. See section 172.2.1(b)(2). %% Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazards is: 1.Contract with a qualified person to load test and conduct periodic inspections of the hoists. 2.Train an employee or employees to conduct frequent inspections of the hoists.
