Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to bursting pipe: (a)At the establishment Compressed air used to power sewing machines and the air press was piped in an above ground 1/2" PVC pipe system that was not enclosed in a conduit or casing of sufficient strength to provide protection from external damage and deterioration. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to replace the PVC pipe with a steel pipe system designed for compressed air utilization.
