Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that, employees were exposed to a fall hazard while working from an elevation on a clam shell bucket on the deck of a ship. Among other methods to correct this hazard would be to have the work performed on the dock or to allow ample slack in the cableof the bucket to allow for the movement of the ship. a) Brayton Point Power Station "E" Dock: An employee was performing welding while standing near the top of the clam shell bucket on the deck of the ship without slack in the crane's cables to compensate for the movement of the ship due to changing tides and wind.
