Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that temporary farm employees were not provided with adequate protections when exposed to extreme heat: On June 8, 2015 and at times prior thereto, the employer failed to protect employees from the hazards of heat related illnesses, including but not limited to, heat stroke. New employees performed weed picking activities on the hilly terrain of wheat fields in direct sunlight. The closest weather station recorded a temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The employer had not developed or implemented a heat stress management program to inform their employees or protect their employees from the hazards of working in extreme heat.
