Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: BURNS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to burns from sprayed hot cooking oil: a) Establishment - On March 14, 1990 and at times prior thereto, compressed air was used on congealed cooking oil to blow out lines while was fryers were hot. Practice was used on Qline, Special Products line. Compressed air line observed on Durco filter. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is: Remove compressed air fittings from oil lines, install heat tape or other heating methods to liquify congealed oil. Slope oil lines where possible to drain lines prior to cooling.
