Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: OTHER
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: %% The employer did not furnish to employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: On or about July 21, 1994, at St. Andrews Country Club in Boca Raton, Florida, the passenger riding on the "Club Car, Inc" golf cart, serial number 9212228449, suffered a fatal injury when he fell from the rear bag area where there was no seat or restraint striking his head on the pavement. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to: 1. Restrict employers from riding in or on the bag area of golf carts. 2. Post the front passenger and rear section of cart with signs reading: "Only passengers in seats permitted and/or a maximum of two persons allowed on golf carts." 3. Institute golf cart safety meetings for rangers and all employees required to use golf carts in the course of their work. 4. Post golf cart storage and service area with warning signs.
