Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likley to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Jobsite - The hazard of being struck by or crushed by the collapse of unsupported steel during the dismantling operation; in that when cutters (burners) proceed the dismantling gangs, the stability of the structure shall be maintained until the members are removed, as required by ANSI A10.13 1989 15.16; on or about 5/10/93. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is when cutters (burners) proceed the dismantling gangs, the stability of the structure shall be maintained until the members are removed as required by ANSI A10.13 1989 15.16 and DOT Department of Steel construction manual. Acceptable methods of supporting the structure is by using temporary bolts or crane(s) as determined by engineering survey.
