Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CHEMICAL
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: a) Employees were exposed to the hazard of a breach of containment of liquid anhydrous ammonia from the 40,000 lb. anhydrous ammonia storage tank adjacent to the north wall of the factory building due to the failure of the anhydrous ammonia storage tank which could result in chemical burns and/or asphyxiation byanhydrous ammonia. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to inspect the vessel at intervals necessary to maintain the vessel in a safe operating condition, as stipulated in the National Board Inspection Code, section U-100 through U-116.
