Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: The hazard of falling approximately 27 feet to pavement. Location: Construction Site located at 3303 Crompond Road, Yorktown, NY 10598-Yorktown Building Design Center. On or before 1/17/95: a) The Tovel Rough Terrain Forklift was used to raise and lower employees to and from the top of structural steel joists that were being erected. Tovel Lift Model 6.4.22, S/N 6923349 was being used. This exposed employees to falls up to 27 feet to gravel. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS: To use a safety platform secured to the lifting carriage and/or forks as stipulated by ANSI B56.1-1975, sections 427 and 513A, American National Standard for Powered Industrial Trucks (lowlift and highlift trucks).
