Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being crushed by a falling partially suspended harbor boat while performing maintenance operations on the J.C. Gee harbor boat, when the rear of the boat is suspended from a 70 ton Manitowoc floating crane and partially supported by the scaggs resting on a pontoon. %% Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct the hazard is: 1. Drydock the vessel during maintenance and repairs; or 2. Provide cribbing and other positive means under the boat being serviced; and 3. Provide training to employees assuring that no employee is under a suspended and/or partially suspended load. %%
