Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to physical harm such as a crushing hazard: The employer is failing to ensure employee are protected from being crushed. This hazard was most recently documented on May 27, 2015, at 83763 527th Avenue, Oakdale, Nebraska when a skilled laborer was navigating a rough terrain crane down a roadway when the crane overturned, after driving onto the soft shoulder, ejecting the employee crushing him. AMONG OTHER METHODS, FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHODS TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD ARE: 1) Train employees to recognize the dangers of not wearing a seat belt in all vehicles that are being moved on public roads. 2) Develop alternate methods to move rough terrain and other cranes over public roads where no operators are in the crane. 3) Inspect and enforce seat belt use requirements for all employees, visitors, subcontractors and skilled/temporary labor employees while on the jobsite.
