Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: (a) Employees were exposed to the hazard of falls while standing on the front bumber of a sanitation vehicle which was moving in reverse, on or about 10/7/92. Temporary employees were exposed to a greater potential of the fall due to not receiving the same level of training given to permanent employees. A feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct the hazard would be to allow the employees to ride in the cab of the sanitation truck or walk along the side of the truck.
