Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to multiple injuries from falling hazard when employees are elevated on platforms when used with a powered industrial truck and the platform is not secured to the lifting carriage and/or forks and not provided with guardrails: a) Maintenance djepartment: a personnel platform was not secured to the powered industrial trucks lifting carriage and/or forks and did not have a guardrail system that included a midrail, June 8, 1993. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO SECURE THE PERSONNEL PLATFORM TO THE LIFTING CARRIAGE AND/OR FORKS, AND INSTALL A MIDRAIL IN THE GUARDRAIL SYSTEM.
