Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of vehicles with an obstructed view to the rear are being backed up without warning devices or a spotter: a)Fort Howard Corporation, Rincon, GA, establishment - Employees were routinely on foot and in close proximity to trucks that were backing up, had no clear view to the rear, and had no back-up alarm(s), on or about 1/28/97. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install back-up alarms on the vehicles which had an obstructed view to the rear that would sound when the vehicle moved backwards.
