Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a)Blanching & Sizing Plant - Employee(s) observed operating industrial forklift trucks in the loading dock area (loading palletized peanut products) were not wearing safety belts and were thereby exposed to struck-by/crushed-by hazards, should the forklift(s) accidentally tip over and cause fatal upper-body injuries from the overhead protection device if they were thrown out of the operator's seat, on or about 07/18/96. One feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to require industrial truck operators to wear safety belts.
