Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: BURNS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to smoke inhalation and burn hazards: a)At the southeast exit, employees are unable to open the exit door promptly in the event of an emergency.Three actions are required to open door, turn door knob, unlatch and slide upper and lower barrel bolts. Door was not operable with no more than one releasing operation. A FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD WOULD BE TO FOLLOW THE LIFE SAFETY CODE, NFPA 101, SECTION 7.2.1.5.4, WHICH STATES THAT DOORS SHALL BE OPERABLE WITH NOT MORE THAN ONE RELEASING OPERATION.
