Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did nto furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: The hazard of being pinned between the rear of the truck and the loading /unloading dock: a) On or about September 10, 1990, employee was lifting the tail-gate back into position of a Mitsubishi FK 455 truck, license tag M0046P, serial number JW6BjJIBOHL0418, at the rear of the companies loading/unloading dock, when the slamming of the tail-gate to the truck, caused it to be jarred enough to roll back and crush the employee between the rear of the truck and the loading dock. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to utilize wheel chocks at all times when loading and unloading. Reference the American National.
