Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to THE HAZARD OF BEING STRUCK-BY THE LOAD : a)Small Dump Bin Area, on or about 7/2/02: The following hoists were not being inspected on a frequent and periodic basis and the support structures had unknown load capacity ratings: 1)2-Ton CM Hoist. 2)1-Ton Budgit Hoist. Among other methods, one feasible method of abatement is to: 1) Inspect the support structures for the hoists as per ASME B30.16-1993, to ensure the structure is designed to withstand the loads and forces imposed by the hoist for the rated load. 2) Conduct frequent and periodic inspections of the hoists for wear, deterioration and malfunction as per ASME B30.16-1993. b)Small Dump Bin Area, on or about 7/2/02: Below the hook lifting device had no load capacity rating and was not being inspected on a frequent and periodic basis. Among other methods, one feasible method of abatement is to: Conduct frequent and periodic inspections of the lifting device and mark the lifting device with the rated load capacity as per ASME B30.20-1993. Abatement certification must be submitted for these items.
