Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: EXPLOSION
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to potential explosion and asphyxiation hazards from compressed CO2 gas: On or about April 12, 1993, employees in the government cellar were exposed to pressure vessel/tank rupture/explosion hazards and potential overexposure to carbon dioxide, in that, the secondary regulator on the CO2 line for the carbonating stone and the relief valve on tank A1 were not properly adjusted and maintained. %% Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is: Develop and implement a preventive maintenance program and employee training which addresses the importance of properly adjusting and maintaining pressure regulating and relief devices.
