Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5 (a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) In the 45 inch mill, riggers working at elevated levels such as the end truck of south crane #72 were not given adequate instructions and training for tying off to protect employees from falls of approximately 40 feet to the ground below when going past a column supporting the safety cable in that they were not instructed and trained to unhook and hook back up immediately when going past a columns. A feasible method would be to instruct and train employees and management officals to hook back up immediately after unhooking in order to pass a column.
