Section 5(a)(1) of the Occuaptional Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely or cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fire and explosion hazards. a) In the ethylene unit, employees performing routine tasks were not provided with flame resistant clothing to protect against the hazard of burns in the event of flash fires resulting from inadvertant flammable gas and/or vapor releases. b) On or about 9/12/89 employees responding to a flammable gas leak(s) were not provided with flame resistant clothing and did not wear flame resistant clothing. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is: Provide and require the use of flame resistant clothing for employees working in the ethylene unit.
