Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to an electrical hazard: a) On or about May 8, 1990, employees were driving/riding in the cab of an International Paystar 5000 truck transporting an oilfield horsehead pump, under a 7200-volt overhead electrical distribution and transmission line on county road 808, one mile south and two miles east of Spivey, Kansas. The pump was not prevented from coming into contact with the 7200-volt energized lines, exposing employees to an electrocution hazard. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to ensure electrical distribution and transmission lines have been de-energized and visibly grounded or install insulating barriers to prevent contact with energized lines.
